New for 2017! This is a 1 day class open to only two students per class, with openings available on some Saturdays or Sundays as scheduling permits. Students will forge a tomahawk from a solid bar of steel, shape the handle, make a leather blade keeper, learn the heat treating proceduces and forging techniques including grinding and filing. While there is no set age requirements, we recommend the class for ages 16 and over (email us regarding younger students, we just want to make sure it's worth our time and your money) and is limited to 2 students per class and scheduling is done on a first come, first serve basis. All materials, including steel, abrassives and fuels needed to complete the projects will be provided along with needed safety gear. We will be using a combination of coal and gas forges during classes. Belt grinders, air tools, abrasive saws and other power equipment may also be used by students. All classes are held in our 1500sq foot indoor facility, rain or shine. Attendees must wear closed toe shoes, preferably work boots and are encouraged to bring their own tools such as hammers or tongs if they have them but this is not required. Classes are held at Underhill Forge, 735 Auction Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
We do not offer refunds for classes due to the advanced scheduling, limited spots available and lead time required to order materials and consumables for each student; however, we run classes year round and will gladly work with you to find a different class to better suit your schedule.
